Questions & Answers

What age is the Munch Mitt recommended for?

The Munch Mitt is designed for babies from 3-8 months, but can be used up to 12 months of age.  Every child is unique and will develop at their own pace. For babies with smaller hands, we suggest tightening the strap lower down on the arm (rather than the wrist). This allows for better access to the teething part of the mitt. As your baby grows and develops, they will become strong enough and smart enough to be able to remove the mitt themselves (on average around 7-8 months of age). At that time many babies continue to use the mitt as a traditional hand held teether. The strap can also be used to attach it to stroller straps or a toy clip.

Are the Munch Mitt materials safe for my baby?

The Munch Mitt's design and materials have been rigorously tested to ensure they meet or exceed all federal safety requirements, including Consumer Product Safety Commission (“CPSC”) standards, American Society for Testing and Materials (“ASTM”) regulations, and the most current Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act (“CPSIA”). The Mitt's teething surface is 100% food grade silicone and is BPA, Phthalate and Latex free.

Can you freeze or cool the Munch Mitt?

It is not necessary to cool or freeze the mitt. The firm textured silicone alone does effectively aid teething relief. When baby bites or rubs the surface on their gums it produces counter pressure which provides pain relief. The Munch Mitt can however be cooled by placing only the silicone part of the mitt face down in a cup of ice. Do not insert the material part in the ice, as it too will become cold and/or wet.

Why is there only one mitt?

Babies from the age of 2 months and up are developing grip and use of their fingers. We leave one hand free to help baby explore the mitt. We find that babies will use one hand to guide the mitt (while on the other hand) to the mouth. Using one mitt in this manner helps baby learn hand/eye, hand/mouth coordination and stimulates their problem solving skills when learning to maneuver the mitt.  We have designed the Munch Mitt so that it can be worn on either hand, based on your baby's preference. Simply flip it over and ensure that the "thumb" teething area is facing the baby's mouth.
